Time is fleeting

There’s a different feel to the air this morning, a coolness that causes a chill….you can feel the change of seasons coming soon. The breeze blows with a gentleness, caressing my face as I sit on my swing. Wisps of my hair tickle my cheek as look over at the chickens quietly pecking the ground as a rooster crows letting us know he’s doing his job. I watch the dragon flies and butterflies happily dance in the air. A hummingbird is enjoying the flowers left on my hibiscus bush. The goats are bleating in the distance and seem content laying under the huge oak tree that provides them shade. I hear the birds singing and cicadas letting us they too matter…the sky is clear, blue and the sun shining bright overhead, kissing the ground through the trees..

It’s a beautiful day…I love our way of life here…it’s peaceful, quite…we lack the chaos and drama many experience. Don’t get me wrong, we all experience times of chaos and unnecessary drama but here, we try to keep it at a minimum. We are mindful of what & who we let in.

As I sit and think and look around at what we have built, I realize all to much we can’t do this forever…time has a way of stealing our youth, energy and vitality…sometimes that’s really hard to accept…I think over the past couple of years I’ve come to terms with the fact it’s time to let some things go. Winters are harder than they used to be for us, so taking care of farm critters is more difficult.

We have decided to let all the goats go. With all the other responsibilities we have here they are just to much. I’ve made peace with it. They may be replaced with pigs that will eventually be added to the freezer. While I love milking, I

simply no longer have the time. Running a business is of course a full time job….thats where my focus is right now.

Growing older is hard in many ways…in our youth we seem to think we have all the time in the world, until one day we wake up and realize time is fleeting and goes by so very quickly. I will miss my goats, but I know it’s time to free up my time.

Winter will soon be here and I’ve heard it’s going to be a hard one…I’m hoping not! But we will prepare just in case. I’m not much into snow, ice and cold….lol…suppose there’s not much we can do about ol’ mama nature other than prepare so we are not caught off guard.

I’ve some canning to get done this next week and I’m looking forward to it! What’s your plans for the week?

Until next time…

THL
